This application has several purposes. Although it helps me in obtaining necessary information for the placement of my puppies, its purpose first and foremost is to require you to carefully think about Gr. Dane ownership. Gr. Danes are truly magnificent creatures but they are not for everyone. They are as expensive as they are large. Due to there size you always have to buy the biggest items, such as food bowls, blankets, crates etc. and especially bags of dog food. Things like medications become exponentially expensive when compared to caring for a smaller breed. Please carefully consider each answer. Truly they are more to make sure they have been brought to your attention and considered than they are to judge you. I want to know that after much careful and thoughtful consideration you still want a Gr. Dane. If you feel that I am being to nosey or asking unnecessary questions then please consider the sheer numbers of Gr. Danes in rescues. It is my intention to place each puppy in a permanent home and not have that puppy or any of its offspring end up in rescue, or worse yet a pound or shelter.

1. Do you own your own home or rent? If you rent have you asked your land lord about owning a Gr. Dane?[ written permission from landlord required, must be notarized]

5. Have you ever owned a Gr. Dane before? If not why do you want to own one now?

6. Have you done any research on the Gr. Dane breed, and if so how much? A good source is the Great Dane Club of America, Danes on Line, and the AKC websites

7. Do you have a fenced yard, and if not are you willing to put up a fence, or kennel run for this puppy?[ underground fencing is not acceptable for Gr. Danes]

14. Have you ever given a dog away, taken it to a shelter or pound, or ever had to euthanize a puppy or dog [other than for old age]? If yes explain.

15. a] Do you agree not to let this dog ride in the back of an open vehicle? b] never to let the dog loose in an unfenced area, where harm may come to it? c] never tie it up as a means of confinement?

16. Are you willing to take this puppy to basic obedience classes, and who will be in charge of the training? We strongly advise obedience training for all Danes, simply because of their huge size.

17. Have you or anyone in your immediate family ever been convicted of any charge related to cruelty to animals or child abuse? explain in detail

18. Would you object to me, [as the breeder] or a friend of mine visiting your home to see how the puppy is adjusting to its new home?

19. Please list 3 references, 1 family, 1 friend, and your veterinarian. These references will be followed up on before a puppy is placed with your family.

Genetic defects include any defect which your veterinarian certifies is a genetic defect, regardless of whether it is hereditary or congenital.
